Fire breaks out in Iowa City homeless encampment Wednesday

IOWA CITY — A big fireplace broke out in a homeless encampment close to South Gilbert Avenue in Iowa Metropolis Wednesday afternoon.

The Iowa Metropolis Hearth Division shortly extinguished the fireplace and no accidents have been reported. Not one of the close by buildings have been broken, based on Hearth Chief Scott Lyon, who spoke with The Gazette on the scene.

The reason for the fireplace is below investigation, Lyon stated. Extra info has not but been launched.
